Bankruptcy filings are down in the Southern District of MS

According to the Southern District of MS Bankruptcy Clerk, bankruptcy filings are down this year in the Southern District of Mississippi. Total bankruptcy filings are down 7% compared to year-to-date filings for 2011. While Chapter 7 filings are down 12.7%, Chapter 13 filings are actually up 1.6%. To see the full statistics, click here. The slight increase in Chapter 13 filings is likely caused by the continuing housing crisis being experienced by many Mississippians.

Chapter 11 filings have increased significantly in 2012, almost doubling, indicating that many businesses are still facing economic hardships.
