According to the Southern District of MS Bankruptcy Clerk, bankruptcy filings are down this year in the Southern District of Mississippi. Total bankruptcy filings are down 7% compared to year-to-date filings for 2011. While Chapter 7 filings are down 12.7%, Chapter 13 filings are actually up 1.6%. Chapter 11 filings have increased significantly in 2012, almost doubling, indicating that many businesses are still facing economic hardships.
